Volunteering Experience With Save the Children

While Talking with the Children at Save the Children's Child-Friendly center.

I had been volunteering with Save the Children since May. I was volunteering with them because not enough attention has been paid to issues of children’s education and rights. I was working as a child rights activist. I went to Save the Children’s child-friendly centers, where street boys who work outside to earn for their a living for their family come to know about their rights and learn Islamic practices. I talked with these children and gave presentations.

Before going to their centers, like everyone else, I also thought that the children must not be able to answer my questions and they might not know about the things that I was going to talk about with them. But when I went there and when I started asking the questions, the children were very confident and they were able to answer my all questions. Despite too many hardships in their life, they continued to get their education while most of the people give up. I was very glad to see such a big difference in them.

I taught them about cleanness and respecting their elders, and I told them about the benefits of being eating vegetables. I asked the children what they aim to become in the future and asked about their jobs. Talking with them made a great influence and it made me realize how lucky I am and I am going to study in a very peaceful environment. It made me realize that life is full of hardships for many people.
